One month usually isn't too much time to see changes on the ground. But some things move fast.
UMNO regrouped its 9-year old GE 13 position in Johor on 12.3.2022. Apparently, UMNO put its stake on Najib, and in spite of his world-wide denouncements, its supporters collected enough votes for the win. But that also meant there is a third MB in 4 years, and like Melaka, that left audible grumblings that can only mean more troubles ahead.
The Johor euphoria carried over to PWTC the following weekend when UMNO had its GA. That assembly approved the call for immediate general elections. Nazri Aziz seemed the only voice criticising that, taking aim at Tok Mat, who's now also called Tok Mat Langau. Roughly there are about 4 camps in UMNO at the moment.
Important facts need to be studied, though.
The 53 % turnout was the lowest in the nation's history since 1959. To equate to GE 14 numbers, another 30% chose to boycott. They are definitely not UMNO fans.
UMNO's total votes were less than 30%. BERSATU was second in terms of the total votes, in spite of losing 10 of the 12 seats it had previously.
Even BN's total votes were less than the opposition.
The lies of Najib were not lessened by his oath to his Maker. His guilt in the Appeals Court did not matter. His blind supporters cried "what's the shame, my boss !" Of course Najib has none.
The GA at PWTC presented the usual show. UMNO delegates were just intoxicated with the big Johor win. Najib was their hero. He certainly was man of the moment. Would it be pride-before-fall ?
Western narrative talks of lives and property loss in the Russian invasion. Snippets of the lost refugee child glaringly flashed on tv. Destroyed buildings are everywhere. "Cruel" is the common adjective. They forget to say this is war. Lives and things get destroyed in a war. More lives and property were lost when USA in particular made war on Vietnam, Panama, Iraq, Libya, Syria and Afghanistan, among others. They were illegal wars, too, and in many, if not all cases were waged on false pretenses. Why was the Western media adopting a different narrative then ?
Biden's spoke about removing Putin. He's no Trump. This is not the Republican Party. Biden seems to forget where he is. Now he's scrambling trying to save his imbicilic statement.
The ex-comedian President of Ukraine is smug on friendly tv demanding, yes demanding, Russia back down. Obviously he's still a comedian. All he has to do is agree to talk, and the shelling should stop. No terms. You're in no position to demand anything. Lives of Ukrainians would be spared immediately. That's the Russian game plan. They're in position of advantage.
Hak Tam's whatsapped me just now about the Ukraine war. Hak Tam from Parit Tinggi (High Drains) held a senior position in the bank, and certainly must be well-educated. But, like many Chinese here, the spoken English is typical Malaysian-Chinese. But his message was excellently written, and I said so. And he had a point.
The lessons of history. These are to be learned and relearned, unfortunately.
