Updating.

31.1.2010.

This is just to break the silence. I hope to write a bit about a few topics shortly. But first. thanks to Hank and Bang Enon ( yes, it's my male cousin even if the endearment sounds feminine ) for the comments about Dekna's imminent betrothal.

Hank came for both of my previous kenduris for the older two boys' weddings, but Bang Enon ducked both for some reason or other.

Sure I'm inviting both again. This time they'll both hopefully come. It'll be at the same venue, Dewan MPS Seremban because it's the only decent hall available in this town, other than the hotels where you don't have a choice on the food. I've booked the hall for Friday 1st October this year. It'll be sit down dinner at 8 pm. I told my wife to have those stupid buffet dinners over my dead body ! I want my guests to come together and get served together decently, and admire the bridal couple, and not line up behind some stupid serving table and mess up everything from 8 to 11 pm, ignoring whatever ceremony is prepared for marriage-reception.

Dekna: Kuantan, Labuan etc.

8.1.2010.

It's been a hectic New Year. As I related earlier, we made a two-day reconnaissance trip to Kuantan on 28th. December. Then we made the actual haulage to Kuantan on 3rd.January, bringing all of Dekna's  stuff to the rented house at Taman Berjaya Permai, Sg. Soi, Tanjung Lumpur.

I borrowed Jamaluddin's van for four days for the job. The first time I asked him, he said the van has never travelled far, but Dato' Mail interceded and said " give-lah". In between Dekna's surprise suitor sent his parents on 2nd January for a "merisik". The betrothal will be on 6th. February. The night of the 1st January No. 3 Son in the kitchen made a touching comment to his mother, bringing a quiet tear - " so, Dekna  is to be married soon, it seems mom." No.3 Son is two years older and is the closest to her among the siblings.

Just now, after Maghrib Dekna called to relate about her first court case, an armed robbery committed by four illegal Indonesian immigrants on a petrol station. She asked for a stiff sentence after they changed their minds and pleaded guilty instead of contesting the prosecution. She said they were manacled but were put within arms reach behind her and could have touched her.

So, what with the purchase of the basic house machinery - the washing machine, the refrigerator etc. for the transfer, and now the engagement and wedding ceremonies to follow this year, I've already told her elder brothers to get ready with the money. In fact the first time I mentioned it to No. 3 Son before the others came back he had immediately called No.2 Son and said "Banshett (that's what he calls him), we're in trouble !".

Fauziah said Dekna  is so young, but her mother replied she's already 25. Anyway it's the mother who's always fretting about her getting married quickly after graduation. I'd always maintain it's not my objective. I just wanted to make sure she got a good, sound education, and the rest is up to her, all in due course.

We have three weeks before the first ceremony. Yesterday I'd already spent 1,150 that I don't have to buy some trinkets. As No.3 Son said, we're all in trouble.

The "Labuan" on the heading ? The boy's based there.
